Medicare Supplement Insurance, also known as Medigap, helps cover the out-of-pocket costs left behind by Original Medicare (Parts A & B). These plans are offered by private insurers and are designed to reduce your financial burden by filling in the “gaps” in coverage.
✅ What Medigap Covers:
Depending on the plan (A–N), Medigap may help pay for:
• Part A coinsurance and hospital costs (up to 365 extra days after Medicare benefits end)
• Part B coinsurance or copayments
• First 3 pints of blood each year
• Part A hospice care coinsurance or copayments
• Skilled nursing facility coinsurance
• Part A and Part B deductibles (varies by plan)
• Foreign travel emergency care (up to plan limits)
All Medigap plans of the same letter offer identical benefits, regardless of the insurer. The only difference is price and customer service.
🚫 What Medigap Does Not Cover:
• Prescription drugs (you’ll need a separate Part D plan)
• Long-term care
• Dental, vision, or hearing services (varies per carrier)
• Private-duty nursing
🧭 Choosing a Plan:
There are 10 standardized Medigap plans (A, B, C, D, F, G, K, L, M, N), plus high-deductible versions of Plans F and G. Not all plans are available to new Medicare enrollees—Plans C and F are only for those eligible before January 1, 2020
